Victor Crist: Closing Dozier a "no-brainer"
Sen. Victor Crist, the chairman of the Senate committee that recommends funding for corrections institutions, added
his name to those criticizing the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna.
Near the end of a cost savings presentation, Crist asked DJJ Deputy Secretary Rod Love for a study by next week
"on how you would absorb the shut-down of Dozier."
“Right now we’re in conservation mode,” said Crist, R-Tampa. “We have to make some very serious decisions, and
this looks like a no-brainer.”
Love discussed how the reform school failed it's annual review a few weeks ago. Reacting to the news, Gov. Charlie
Crist said if you can't fix the school, "then you can do what's necessary, including shutting it down."
