“ENDING CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS ACT,
HR 3027  CAMPAIGN RALLY,” JUNE 20-22, 2012
In 19 US States and territories educators are permitted to
punish schoolchildren
by hitting them with wooden boards.
Disadvantaged and special needs students are the primary
targets of such maltreatment. HR 3027, introduced by NY Rep.
Carolyn McCarthy, will end this travesty. It needs your support.

Caring for the emotional needs of
our children means more than
giving them a happy childhood. It
means to enable the brains of the
future adults to function in a healthy,
rational way, free from perversion
and madness. Being forced to
learn in childhood that hitting
children is a blessing for them is a
most absurd, confusing lesson,
one with the most dangerous
consequences: This lesson as
such, together with being cut off
from the true emotions, creates the
roots of violence.

“ENDING CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS ACT, HR 3027  CAMPAIGN RALLY,” JUNE 20-22, 2012  WASHINGTON DC

ATTENDING THE RALLY AND
HOW YOU CAN HELP PASS THIS IMPORTANT BILL FOR ALL GENERATIONS OF CHILDREN
TO COME--PROTECTING THE CHILDREN FROM HARM WHILE AT OUR SCHOOLS--OUR LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE
The U S Govt can end all legalized assault and battery in
American schools today but chooses to delay. Why? Because
primary targets are Black Americans, Latinos, Native
Americans, children with autism and other special needs, and
low income families. The same groups that have always
received the poorest representation in America. A paddled
behind gets left behind. They know this. Why do they allow
legalized assault and battery to take place with these
populations?

If your child comes home bruised or bloodied from a school
beating and you go to that school to confront the person who
beat your child, you can and will be arrested. Most schools do
not need your permission to brutalize your child.
Are we to
have no say in this matter when it comes to our own
sons and daughters?
"The greatest terror a child can have is that he is not loved, and
rejection is the hell he fears. I think everyone in the world to a
large or small extent has felt rejection. And with rejection comes
anger, and with anger some kind of crime in revenge for the
rejection, and with the crime guilt – and there is the story of
mankind." — John Steinbeck, East of Eden, 1952
Pres. Obama: Ban Corporal Punishment in U S Public Schools

The Petition
AN URGENT MESSAGE TO THE PRESIDENT

Dear President Obama,

We are writing to alert you to a gross and unconscionable violation of school children's
fundamental human rights. The practice to which we refer is universally condemned by
recognized leaders in the fields of pedagogy and psychology. Nevertheless, it is widespread,
and those with the authority to correct it either are unaware of the problem, or pretend to be
unaware.

The United States is the only Western industrialized democracy that permits school children to
be punished by being battered on the buttocks with a wooden board. This practice, known as
"paddling," is legal in 21 states, and occurs approximately 1/4 million times per year. Such
blatant child abuse has many well-documented negative effects, and no benefits. It is one of the
causes of the high rate of drop-out that afflicts public schools in paddling states. It promotes
violence by modeling violence. It signals its users' incompetence. The time is past due for all
educators to be held to a higher standard of professionalism -- one that guarantees a safe,
nurturing, violence-free environment to every school child.

We, the undersigned, demand the immediate abolition of corporal punishment in U S public
schools.

We urge people from all over this great land to attend in solidarity for this cause and to OCCUPY HR 3027. There is not a more important issue before us
today than to ban brutality inflicted upon this generation of children,
ESPECIALLY IN USA SCHOOLS, youth residential-facilities, and other child-care
environments.

USA Today put it in these words, “In this age of child abuse, bullying and violence, it's incomprehensible that this is still a matter of debate when it comes to
the behavior of our public schools personnel.

It's time for the majority of states to unite and stand up for the minors living in the 19 states where it's legal for school officials to intentionally inflict pain on
students in the name of discipline” (see USA Today news article, May 9, 2012:

Members of "TheWhiteHouseBoys" a group of men who as children from 8-16 years of age, were brutally flogged (whipped with a weighted leather flogging
devise) at the Dozier/Florida School For Boys, a 111 year old boy's reform school located in Marianna Florida. They will speak of their experience and what
this abuse, not unlike some of the more severe abuse witnessed at schools, did to them. This was a three year ongoing national press story exposed by
Carol Marbin Miller of the Miami Herald in 2008 and picked up by Ben Montgomery of the Tampa Bay Times, in a five part series "For Their Own Good"
which won the Dart Award for Trauma in Journalism and runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize, as it depicted the
worst reported abuse case within an American
child-care institution.

Paula Flowe has used her personal expenses for the work of having a US federal bill passed to protect American school children from
“sanctioned” and
“lawless” abuse since 2006.   She disclosed that her home and retirement have all been sacrificed for the cause of having “protective” laws in place for
school children throughout the US and its territories, and will continue the work until success.

Children should not have to go to school in the morning with fear that they might be hurt. To paddle and beat our children is not part of the educational
process!

The voices and faces of children targeted for sanctioned USA school abuse are most important for the world to see. The purity and sincerity of a child's
voice renders a powerful message.
